So here are the seeds of what would turn into the work in the following years. Most of these doodles were created in 1970 or 1971 in a sketchbook using a 0 or 00 point Rapidograph technical pen. Similar to “automatic writing”, this was “automatic drawing”. I had no idea what was going to happen and just let the pen move. If I got an ink blob, which happened often, I just turned it into something. It was fun, and I’m sure if anything it was therapeutic.
