“The Alkali Pool” was the first large scale drawing I attempted in a warehouse studio in downtown Santa Ana, Ca. I worked on it for a year, from early 1976 through early 1977. This piece is very colorful; I still had much to learn about using light and dark to create volume and shadow. Regardless, I developed quite a bit from this piece and it was recognized in several area shows. It is 28″ by 38″, pen and ink and colored pencil on (unfortunately) a cheap brand of hot press illustration board.
